FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, May 11, 2017 - The Ryder Cup is golf’s preeminent event, originally conceived in 1927 as a battle of golf’s best from Great Britain and the United States. Ninety years later, The UK and the US will commence a new competition also staged on a golf course – FootGolf’s first Jansen Cup. This biennial event honors Michael Jansen, one of the creators of the sport of FootGolf as we play it today. Just as Samuel Ryder’s name lives on in golf folklore, so too will Jansen’s as FootGolf grows into an international, mainstream sport.

The Jansen Cup will pit the top players of the U.S. Ranking 2016, the FIFG World Cup Champions, against FootGolf’s first European Champions from the United Kingdom. Both teams set stringent qualification criteria and 24 players earned the honor of being selected by their national organizations for this inaugural event.  “At FootGolf's inception in the Netherlands in 2009, I wouldn't have dreamed that in 2017 I would be attending its future in America. I'm honoured for the opportunity to witness a milestone in the sport that would be nowhere without the pioneers from the UK and USA. Two countries. One team. FootGolf will be the winner”, said Michael Jansen, who will attend the event in Palm Desert, California.

The multi-day competition will take place May 22-24, 2017 at Desert Willow Golf Resort – the home course of the American FootGolf League.  Each team will consist of 24 players (20 men and 4 women), who will compete in daily matches – four ball, foursomes (alternate shots), and singles.
